Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) has continued to evolve since its initial introduction in the 1950s and 60s. The establishment of food-related laws and the tightening of audit standards have forced the food industry to innovate, and it must also respond to higher demands from consumers. The primary goal of HACCP is to provide the highest quality food to the end consumer. In this issue, I will discuss how HACCP is applied to pest management. New standards are continuously established based on laws and audit criteria, and pest control is conducted in accordance with these standards. This means that pest control is, in effect, unconsciously adhering to the principles of HACCP.
