The Japan Plant Maintenance Association, a public interest incorporated association, has established a standard to objectively evaluate the functions and management techniques related to maintenance that are required of manufacturing operators. Through "certification exams" and "correspondence education," it certifies "self-maintenance engineers." Specifically, individuals who possess the following four abilities, along with five complementary knowledge and skills, are recognized as "operators strong in equipment" and are certified as "self-maintenance engineers."
