[Information] Use of Polylysine in Antimicrobial Coatings
Natural amino acid 'Polylysine' as an additive in food preservatives, hygiene materials, and daily necessities. Examples of the use of Polylysine in antibacterial coatings are introduced.
ε-Polylysine (hereinafter referred to as Polylysine) is a substance formally known as ε-poly-L-lysine. It is a homopolymer consisting of 25 to 35 units linked by amide bonds, formed from the ε-amino group of the essential amino acid L-lysine and the α-carboxyl group. Since 1989, it has over 30 years of manufacturing history and is widely used as a food preservative amino acid. By uniformly dispersing Polylysine in aqueous emulsion resin, an antibacterial paint can be obtained that has low environmental impact from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and high safety for human health. This introduces the antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis of polypropylene sheets coated with polyvinyl butyral resin dispersed with Polylysine. Sheets coated with polyvinyl butyral resin containing Polylysine exhibit antibacterial effects that depend on the amount of Polylysine in the coating film against each microorganism. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
basic information
**Characteristics of Polylysine** - Exhibits excellent antibacterial effects against various microorganisms in small amounts. - Shows antibacterial effects over a wide pH range. - Excellent thermal stability. - Demonstrates synergistic effects when used in combination with chelating agents. - Has a rich track record of use as an additive in cosmetics, hygiene materials, and daily necessities. - Possesses excellent properties as a preservative due to its high safety. - Highly soluble in water, making it easy to use in food. - Exhibits excellent growth inhibition effects against a wide range of microorganisms, including gram-positive bacteria (such as Bacillus cereus), gram-negative bacteria (such as Escherichia coli), and yeasts, particularly against food poisoning bacteria. - Also shows excellent growth inhibition effects against heat-resistant bacteria, including Bacillus subtilis. - Demonstrates strong inhibitory effects against lactic acid bacteria, which significantly affect food spoilage. - High safety has been confirmed through acute toxicity, subacute toxicity, chronic toxicity, mutagenicity, and pharmacokinetic tests in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*
