Co-op Nomura Minami Ishikiri, located in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, is a three-story, 24-unit apartment building built in 1978. In August 2001, during its 23rd year, a pipe protector was installed, and it is now 42 years old. Takashi Furuta, the maintenance director who conducted the interview, stated, "Thanks to the rust prevention effect of the NMR Pipe Protector, both the water supply and drainage pipes have been extended in their lifespan, and there are currently no plans for pipe replacement in the long-term repair plan." ◆ Effect of the NMR Pipe Protector on Extending Pipe Lifespan After 16 years of having the NMR Pipe Protector installed, Co-op Nomura Minami Ishikiri conducted a deterioration diagnosis survey of the pipes. It was found that there was almost no red rust deterioration in both the water supply and drainage pipes, and the red rust surface had turned into black rust, confirming the rehabilitation of the pipes. Black rust does not dissolve in water at all and has been used historically in items like Chinese woks. Its small volume improves the blockage caused by red rust, protecting the pipes until the building's lifespan ends. The installation of the pipe protector has eliminated dirt such as limescale and slime, resulting in a 30% reduction in the frequency of drainage pipe cleaning. Furuta mentioned that the amount of red rust discharged during drainage pipe cleaning has also drastically decreased. Additionally, he noted that trust in the NMR Pipe Protector has increased based on the results of the deterioration diagnosis survey of the 40-year-old pipes.
