◆What is the BBC The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is a public broadcasting organization that operates radio and television in the UK, similar to Japan's NHK, and its main funding comes from viewer license fees. Programs such as "Doctor Who," "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and "BBC News" are well-known in Japan, and recently, more people seem to be watching "BBC News" for language learning purposes. ◆Aging Buildings Due to History The BBC began as the "British Broadcasting Company" in 1922 as a radio station. As a result, many of its buildings have aged significantly, and the main block building, which had the NMR pipe protector installed in 2006, was already 53 years old at that time. The cooling water pipes in the main block used galvanized steel pipes, which have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years, and their lifespan had been greatly exceeded. In fact, there was significant red rust corrosion inside the pipes, necessitating urgent measures. The Stage 5 building also had similar red rust corrosion, and NMR pipe protectors were installed in both buildings. Next time, we will introduce the rust prevention effects at the BBC.
