At Kanto Chemical, we have been selling "cross-linked hexaaryl bisimidazole compounds" developed by Professor Jiro Abe and others at Aoyama Gakuin University. We have now conducted new molecular design and commercialized PY-1, PR-1, and PB-1, which have entirely new molecular frameworks and exhibit photochromic properties under sunlight. Unlike the previously released HABI type, this product group shows good photochromic properties under sunlight. Additionally, by suppressing the residual of the coloring agent, we aim to enhance the speed of color fading and improve the repeatability characteristics. Photochromism is a phenomenon in which two states with different absorption spectra undergo reversible isomerization due to light irradiation, accompanied by a change in the color of the material. Photochromic compounds that exhibit this phenomenon are expected to be applied as dimming materials, optical memory materials, and holographic materials, and are actively being researched. Among photochromic compounds, there are P-type compounds that return to their original structure after a change in molecular structure due to light irradiation, and T-type compounds that return to their original structure through thermal reactions. In T-type photochromic compounds, the thermal decolorization reaction from the colored state takes several minutes at room temperature, and there has been a demand for further acceleration of the photochromic reaction.
