Improving the safety of level crossings with AI image analysis! (Meitetsu EI Engineering Co., Ltd.)

【Key Points of Introduction】 Challenges The preservation of level crossings, which are essential for the stable operation of railways, an important infrastructure in society. Nagoya Railroad, which has many level crossings of various sizes, was exploring the introduction of a system suited to the region to ensure the safety of not only the crossings themselves but also the surrounding tracks. Results Triggered by the introduction of cameras, an abnormality detection system using AI image analysis was developed, which is linked with train operation commands and signals, creating a level crossing monitoring system. The DX-U2200 was adopted as the core of the system, an edge AI computer equipped with Jetson, enabling contributions to the improvement of safety at a greater number of level crossings as a safety support device.
