In 1947, a color research group was established in a corner of Tsukishima, Tokyo, which later became the Color Division of Japan Electronic Measuring Instruments Co., Ltd. The group focused primarily on the production of standard color samples and research and guidance on color adjustment. In November 1956, it became independent and was established as Murakami Color Technology Research Institute, Inc.
