Technical Data: Basics of Ion Chromatography - Historical Edition
A beginner's booklet that clearly explains the history of the development of ion chromatography devices.
basic information
Ion chromatography began with a paper titled "Novel Ion Exchange Chromatographic Method Using Conductivity Detection" by H. Small and others, published in the journal "Analytical Chemistry" in 1975. They detected ions after separating them using ion exchange resin with a conductivity detector. While this may not seem remarkable at first glance, it is quite a challenge to detect just a tiny amount of ions in a eluent that contains salt (electrolyte) using conductivity detection, as the eluent must contain salt to separate the ions with the ion exchange resin.
