【Near Infrared Spectrometer Technical Data 10 Petrochemicals】 Measuring the density of polyethylene (PE) (ASTM D792) is challenging due to the difficulty in achieving reproducible results with standard measurement procedures. This application note demonstrates the determination of the specific gravity of PE by measurement with a near-infrared spectrometer. By using visible-near-infrared spectroscopy, which does not require sample pretreatment or chemical reagents, large heterogeneous samples can be analyzed in about one minute.
