[Latest Information] Handling of REACH New Standard Compliant PTFE Powder (MPI Products/Fluo Series)

MP GOKYO FOOD&CHEMICAL CO.,LTD
Regarding PTFE powder, which is commonly used as an additive for paint and ink, it is known that PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) can be unintentionally generated during the manufacturing process. In June 2017, the list of restricted substances under the EU REACH regulation (Annex XVII) was amended to include restrictions on the use of PFOA, its salts, and PFOA-related substances. As a result, from July 4, 2020, the manufacture and marketing of PFOA as a compound are prohibited, and the use and marketing of mixtures or molded products containing PFOA in concentrations exceeding 25 ppb are generally prohibited. Additionally, in Japan, on April 16, 2021, a cabinet decision was made to designate "PFOA or its salts" as a Type 1 specified chemical substance as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 2 of the Chemical Substances Control Law. The cabinet decision to partially amend the Enforcement Order of the Chemical Substances Control Law was promulgated on April 21, 2021, and is scheduled to come into effect on October 22, 2021. As the general import agent, we are preparing to continue the import and sale of this product in Japan, including communication with the relevant government ministries following the amendment of the Chemical Substances Control Law.
