"Kollicoat IR" is a pharmaceutical excipient developed by BASF, consisting of a graft copolymer of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). It was approved as a pharmaceutical excipient in July 2007 and has a track record of use in numerous formulations domestically. "Kollicoat IR" is widely utilized as a film coating agent due to its high extensibility and rapid solubility. It dissolves quickly in water, and its aqueous solution exhibits extremely low viscosity, which enhances spray efficiency and reduces processing time. Additionally, due to its strong binding properties, it can also be used as a binding agent for granulation.
