Case study of electronic listening rods at Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation Ibaraki Plant.

Case Study: Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation Ibaraki Plant

Mitsubishi Chemical's Ibaraki Plant has introduced Nabtesco Service's electronic listening stick "Kirari MUSE" to address the issues of personalization and technical succession in the "auditory inspection" of rotating equipment. By digitizing the detection of abnormal sounds in pumps and blowers, which had previously relied on the experience of skilled workers, we are promoting the digital transformation (DX) of maintenance operations. The main outcomes of the introduction are as follows: First, there is an improvement in diagnostic accuracy. By recording and visualizing abnormal sounds as digital data and comparing them with sound data from normal conditions, it has become possible to objectively assess signs of abnormalities based on clear indicators. Second, there is an enhancement in the efficiency of technical succession. The data measured with the electronic listening stick can be recorded without being influenced by surrounding sounds. The accumulated recording data is being used as educational material for younger operators. By sharing specific audio data, an environment has been established that efficiently cultivates the "ears of the field," allowing even less experienced staff to detect abnormalities early. As a result, stable plant operations and the transmission of technology to the next generation are being achieved simultaneously.
