"3D scanning of a wide area just by walking around" - "Easy 3D Space Scanner @mapper" released.
We released the handheld 3D laser scanner "@mapper" on February 24, 2026, which can be used by anyone. The @mapper is a device that utilizes the SLAM technology developed through our autonomous mobile robot research, enabling high-precision 3D scanning with minimal blur and distortion, even without specialized knowledge. *SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is a technology that allows machines or robots to estimate their current position while simultaneously creating a map of their surroundings using sensor information. ■ Easy Operation Equipped with our uniquely developed SLAM technology honed through autonomous movement on uneven terrain. It is resistant to vibrations, allowing even beginners to obtain stable scanning results without the need for expertise in surveying or 3D point clouds. ■ Wide Area Scanning Scanning is possible simply by walking around. The maximum reachable distance is 60m. It can measure large areas such as high-rise buildings and large factories in a short time. ■ On-Site Completion The acquired data is converted into a 3D point cloud in real-time. No post-processing is required, and it can be saved directly to a USB memory stick on-site. Since the measurement can be completed with just the on-site work, there is no need for revisits or additional measurements.

Adoption of @mobi for equipment inspection robots for superconducting linear trains.
Panasonic Advanced Technology Co., Ltd., Tokai Passenger Railway Company, and Suzuki Motor Corporation have developed a prototype of an equipment inspection robot (hereinafter referred to as "Minervα") that automatically conducts visual inspections to improve the efficiency of inspection and maintenance operations for various mechanical equipment supporting the operation of the superconducting linear train. This robot adopts the software package "@mobi" provided by Panasonic Advanced Technology Co., Ltd., making it the first in the railway industry to do so, and it is capable of autonomous movement. It is designed to safely navigate in narrow spaces autonomously. Furthermore, by incorporating robotic arm control functions and automatic charging capabilities, it automates the visual inspection process. In the future, it is expected that the equipment inspection robot will be deployed along the Linear Chuo Shinkansen line to conduct visual inspections automatically, thereby reducing the time, effort, and burden associated with personnel traveling to the site for inspections.
