■Basics and Applications of Emulsification and Dispersion <Lecture Overview> The theme of "building stable dispersion and emulsion systems with a smaller and sharper particle size distribution using fewer surfactants (dispersants)" is one of the most important challenges common to industries dealing with colloidal dispersion systems. Particularly in recent years, with nanoparticle systems, there are cases where traditional dispersion techniques fall short, leading to instances where the functionality of materials cannot be fully realized. Successfully integrating interfacial chemical methods with mechanical methods can provide a solution to such challenges. In this lecture, we will return to the origins of emulsification and dispersion technology, reviewing fundamental theories and discussing points of focus to enhance stability and functionality, as well as introducing examples of stirring methods and the construction of dispersion processes tailored to specific objectives.
