Basic knowledge of rigid polyurethane: Cyclopentane, water resistance (polyether type)
Explanation of the differences between polyether-based and polyester-based materials! Introduction to the basics of rigid polyurethane.
I will introduce the differences between polyether-based and polyester-based materials. The molecular structures of polyester-based urethane and polyether-based urethane are different. Polyether-based urethane contains -O- within its bonding molecules, and in principle, this molecular structure is not affected by H2O (water). In other words, it is a material that is strong against water. An example of this is its use in bathtub covers. On the other hand, polyester-based urethane contains -COO- within its bonding molecules, and this molecular structure tends to react with H2O (water) and decompose into -COOH (acid) and -OH (alcohol). Therefore, polyester-based urethane is generally said to have inferior water resistance. *There are also polyester-based materials with high water resistance. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.
