Handbook of In-Vehicle Indicator Evaluation Cases in the Production Process
Examples of brightness and color evaluation of in-vehicle indicators (switch text and icons) in the production process.
There is an increasing number of vehicle models, particularly high-end cars and electric vehicles (EVs), that consolidate HMI (Human-Machine Interface) operations into touch-based systems. The European automotive safety assessment organization Euro NCAP will add the presence of physical switches for major functions to its safety criteria starting in 2026, while the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued guidance in 2013 stating that a single task should be completed within 2 seconds and can take a maximum of 12 seconds to finish. Additionally, due to the significant advantages of physical switches that allow operation without shifting gaze while driving, there is a movement to revert from touch-based systems back to physical switches. In production management, there is a demand for optical measuring instruments that are as compact, low-cost, and fast as possible, while providing stable measurements for repeated testing.
