Toptica's laser systems often emit laser light that is at or near the diffraction limit. This allows for efficient coupling into single-mode fibers. Coupling single-mode light into multimode (MM) fibers can lead to a loss of brightness; however, the coupling efficiency is relatively good and is less affected by misalignment. Generally, the output signal is multimode. To maintain the good characteristics of single-mode light, it is necessary to select single-mode (SM) fibers.
