[Case Study] Measuring the steering wheel rotation angle of a car non-contactly.
Frequent "skipping" errors with optical sensors! How can we prevent interference from factors like stray reflections and dust?
At an automotive safety inspection company, the steering wheel rotation angle of vehicles was measured using optical sensors. However, due to issues such as light scattering and dust accumulation, "missed reading" errors occurred, leading to an increase in the number of tests and a significant decrease in work efficiency. There were requests for "sensors that are not affected by external disturbances" and "keeping the introduction costs as low as possible." The linear encoder system "SI-140 series" that we recommend consists of the magnetic detection head "SIE-140" and the magnetic scale "SIS-140." Installation is simply a matter of wrapping the "SI-140" around the steering axis of the vehicle. The number of measurement tests, which previously took 5 times, has been reduced to just 2, less than half. This has compressed the testing work and time, decreased "missed reading" errors, and improved testing accuracy. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
basic information
【Case Summary (Partial)】 ■Trouble Cases (Requests) - We want sensors that are not affected by external disturbances. - We are looking for sensors with established "repetitions" every time. - We want to keep the introduction costs as low as possible. ■Trouble Situation and Losses - Follow-up inspection time: 18,000 seconds (300 seconds × 60 times/day) - Readjustment: 1,200 seconds (600 seconds × 2 times/day) - Loss amount: 64,000 yen/day (considering 200 yen per minute) *This is the total time for 5 workstations within the relevant factory. ■Improvement Points and Expected Customer Benefits - Adopting a compact and small-sized design allows for easy installation even in narrow spaces. - The magnetic scale "SIS-140" can be attached with double-sided tape, making installation and removal easy. - Due to non-contact detection, there is almost no wear or damage to the surface from friction or aging deterioration. ■Effects and Benefits of Improvement - Number of inspections: Average 5 times → 2 times *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
