The transformers installed in wind power generation systems are exposed to changes in current and voltage far more frequently than those installed in general power distribution equipment, and the extent of these changes is also significantly greater. Furthermore, they are often installed in mountainous areas, coastal regions, or offshore, operating under the influence of wind, rain, temperature changes, humidity, and salt air. With Rishokycast molded transformers, we can address these issues faced by transformers used in wind power generation. The photo shows a 2300 kVA self-cooling step-up transformer installed inside the tower of a floating offshore wind turbine.
basic information
The coils of the resin-cast molded transformer are insulated with epoxy resin reinforced with glass fibers. This makes them very robust and prevents moisture (condensation), conductive substances dissolved in it, or dust from entering the coils, thus providing the environmental resistance required for transformers used in wind power generation. Furthermore, the coils are equipped with air ducts, allowing for self-cooling, meaning they can be efficiently cooled through natural convection. As a result, even at high capacities such as 2000 kilovolt-amperes, they do not require electric fans, resulting in lightweight and compact transformers, which have led to many successful applications, including replacements for existing transformers.
