The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has established new regulations to prevent work-related accidents caused by chemical substances. Starting from April 1, 2024, it has become mandatory for workplaces that handle chemical substances such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach), sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide to require the wearing of protective goggles. (2) Appoint a responsible person for managing the use of protective gear. ■ Prevention of direct contact with hazardous chemical substances that may cause skin or other injuries When engaging workers in tasks that involve manufacturing or handling chemical substances that are skin or eye irritants, corrosive to skin, or can be absorbed through the skin and cause health issues, they must be required to use protective gear to prevent injuries, depending on the harmfulness of the substances.
