Additives for Water-Based Topcoat Clear Coatings: Poor wetting on the substrate Recommended additives: BYK-348, BYK-349, BYK-347, BYK-3455 • For plastic substrates: BYK-3450, BYK-3451 • If there is a lot of foam: BYK-3480, BYK-3481 Water-based paints that use high surface tension water as a solvent require wetting agents that lower surface tension to ensure proper wetting on the substrate. Silicone-based surfactants show very high effectiveness. Additives for Water-Based Primers: Improved adhesion to the substrate and improved adhesion for topcoats Recommended additives: BYK-4509, BYK-4513, BYK-4500 Improves adhesion to inorganic and metal substrates. Additionally, it enhances the adhesion of the topcoat applied over the substrate. The effect can also be expected for plastic substrates if they are composite materials like glass.
