Cosmetic ingredient Carboxymethylglucan (natural polysaccharide)
Immune modulation, antioxidant effect, promotion of superoxide dismutase (reactive oxygen species decomposition enzyme) production, anti-aging (elasticity, wrinkles, smoothness)
Carboxymethyl glucan (CMG) is a derivative of β-glucan isolated from yeast cell walls and is a natural yeast polysaccharide. While β-glucan is insoluble, this product has been made water-soluble while maintaining its biological activity through carboxymethylation. CMG significantly increases superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, which shows important immune-regulating and antioxidant effects. These mechanisms help protect the skin from UV stress. = In Vitro = - Maintenance of glutathione pool (UV) - Promotion of SOD (reactive oxygen species-decomposing enzyme) production (UV): 40% increase - Inhibition of cellular phospholipid oxidation (UV): 80% inhibition - Inhibition of cellular protein oxidation (UV, vs TiO2): 22% inhibition - Inhibition of inflammatory cytokine (IL-6) (UV): 20% inhibition - Inhibition of inflammatory cytokine (IL-1beta) (UV): 40% inhibition - Promotion of anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL-10) production (UV): 60% increase = In Vivo = - Increase in collagen fibers and dermal papilla cells - Improvement in skin smoothness - Reduction in pore size - Improvement in skin elasticity - Improvement in crow's feet wrinkles
