Gas cutting applications
Powder cutting is a term used in the metallurgical industry that refers to various types of flame treatment methods for high-alloy and refractory materials. In a normal oxygen-fuel flame, it is not possible to obtain sufficient heat to cut materials like stainless steel due to the formation of heat-resistant slag. In powder cutting, by adding iron powder to the flame, a more than doubled effect can be achieved. By burning (oxidizing) the iron powder, the heat generated for cutting is increased, and additionally, the heat-resistant slag is diluted by the oxidized iron powder, lowering the slag melting temperature. This allows the slag to become fluid, making it easier to remove with the oxygen stream.
