As part of research on magnetic bearings for attitude control of artificial satellites, two engineers from CSEM (Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology) are capturing disturbances of a reaction wheel using our dynamometer with magnetic bearings. Based on these high-precision disturbance measurement results, we have been able to evaluate a control algorithm for active control of synchronous rotational vibrations across the entire range of rotational speeds, allowing us to increase rotational speed while minimizing disturbances and power consumption. Advanced testing of artificial satellites focuses on, for example, reducing the image quality of camera footage and suppressing actuator disturbances.
At CSEM, tests of reaction wheels using magnetic bearings are conducted utilizing Kistler's multi-component dynamometer.
