ウッドプラスチック(WPC:Wood Plastic Composite)は、木粉などの木質材料と熱可塑性樹脂を複合化した環境配慮型材料です。 木材由来の自然な質感と、プラスチックの成形性・耐久性を兼ね備えており、近年は脱炭素・バイオマス活用・石油由来材料削減の観点から注目が高まっています。 主に使用される樹脂には、ポリプロピレン(PP)、ポリエチレン、再生樹脂(PCR材・PIR材)などがあり、木粉は30〜70wt%程度まで高充填されます。 WPCは以下の特長を持ちます: ・石油由来樹脂使用量を大幅に低減 ・木材の意匠性(温かみ・自然感)を付与 ・射出成形・押出成形が可能 ・リサイクル適性を持つ ・CO2削減効果が期待できる 特に木粉は、木材を粉砕・乾燥するだけで比較的容易に利用できるため、最も導入しやすいバイオマス材料の一つとされています。 用途は非常に広く、建材(デッキ材・内装材)、自動車部品、家電筐体日用品、難燃用途部材などに拡大しつつあります。 近年ではさらに、難燃化、高剛性化、耐衝撃改良、高流動化、再生樹脂との複合など、高機能WPCへの要求も高まっています。
