The piCOMPACT23 SMART program has added the IO-Link Class B option. In highly safe robot cells, the power supply to actuators and sensors is separated to prevent the risk of injury to workers entering the cell during maintenance inspections after an emergency stop (E-stop). By combining the IO-Link Class B with the bistable valve option, higher safety is achieved as the bistable valve remains in its last position during power outages or emergency stops. When a power outage or emergency stop occurs, the power supply to the valve is cut off, but the power supply to the sensors continues, allowing for ongoing vacuum level checks and monitoring. If the pump is in energy-saving (ES) mode, the valve operates with pre-charging, generating vacuum to hold the workpiece.
