The piCOMPACT23 SMART program has added the IO-Link Class B option. In highly safe robot cells, the power supply to actuators and sensors is separated to prevent the risk of injury to workers entering the cell during maintenance inspections after an emergency stop (E-stop). By combining the IO-Link Class B with the bistable valve option, higher safety is achieved as the bistable valve remains in its last position during power outages or emergency stops. When a power outage or emergency stop occurs, the power supply to the valve is cut off, but the power supply to the sensors continues, allowing for ongoing vacuum level checks and monitoring. If the pump is in energy-saving (ES) mode, the valve operates with pre-charging, generating vacuum to hold the workpiece. [Case Study] Productivity improved and noise levels reduced by 50% through carton palletizing solutions.
**[Issue]** The palletizing of boxes of various sizes filled with range hood products was being used without improvement. Additionally, it was a challenge that products inevitably fell during each production cycle, necessitating a halt in production. Boxes flow from three independent production lines to each palletizing station. A highly flexible gripping system was required to handle the various shapes and weights of boxes coming from each line without adjustments or switches. **[Solution]** The 'Kenos(R) KVGL Foam Gripper,' equipped with six COAX ejectors that reduce compressed air consumption, can handle the picking of various types of boxes. The COAX multi-stage ejector generates approximately three times the vacuum flow rate with the same air consumption as traditional vacuum ejectors and is up to twice as fast as other ejectors. By implementing the Kenos KVGL, a product loss rate of 0% was achieved, and the noise level from the vacuum generation system was reduced by 50%. Accelerating the palletizing cycle of food applications.
By introducing Piab's Kenos(R) KVGL gripper into the end-line automation system of a flour bagging factory, we achieved improved productivity in the handling of bags. Before adopting Piab's vacuum technology, we were picking bags one by one with a gripper equipped with suction cups. Frequent drops of the conveyed items occurred due to variations in bag dimensions, making it difficult to correct and time-consuming for the process. The adoption of the Kenos(R) KVGL foam gripper resolved all these issues. It maximized the flexibility of the gripping layout and reduced the cycle time by 20%. Additionally, compared to suction cups, which often damaged the bag paper, the larger gripping surface and lower required vacuum level made it less likely to damage the conveyed items. The Kenos KVGL gripper system can incorporate a COAX multi-stage ejector as a vacuum source, and it is also possible to use an external electric vacuum pump.
