4Cell MDCK CD medium

Chemically Defined Medium (CD) for MDCK Cell Proliferation and Virus Infection in Suspension Culture

This is a chemically defined medium developed for the rapid and robust proliferation of MDCK cells for vaccine manufacturing. It provides an environment suitable for MDCK cells for all upstream processes and manufacturing scales. The use of MDCK cells is very useful as it allows for the production of viruses for vaccine manufacturing in a suspension culture system.

Viral Vaccines Media

basic information

4Cell MDCK CD medium is a chemically defined, serum-free, protein-free, animal-derived component-free, and hydrolysate-free medium designed for research and manufacturing purposes. It is intended for the proliferation and infection of Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells in suspension. The 4Cell MDCK CD medium is optimized for the growth of MDCK cells and viral infections from bench scale to production. This formulation is ready to use and suitable for suspension culture. It supports the growth of MDCK cells and influenza viruses (H1N1, H3N2), enabling all upstream bioprocessing steps in a single medium.

Applications/Examples of results

In bioprocessing, MDCK cells have traditionally been used in the cell-based virus vaccine manufacturing process. MDCK cells are strongly recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the isolation of influenza A and B viruses (primarily for diagnostic purposes). On the other hand, MDCK cells are a key cell line used to produce seasonal or pandemic influenza vaccines using cells instead of traditional chicken eggs.
