[July 12, 2018] Announcement of the free seminar co-hosted by Showden and Ohmsha: "For Designers and Contractors! Lightning Damage Prevention - Latest SPD Course Compliant with the Latest JIS and IEC Standards"
Recently, due to the effects of global warming, there has been an increase in intense thunderstorms known as "guerrilla rainstorms," leading to a rise in lightning damage throughout the year. Consequently, there is a growing trend in the demand and adoption of lightning protection products. On the other hand, troubles have also arisen from power short-circuit accidents caused by SPD failures, resulting in fires. Additionally, revisions to JIS and IEC standards may require significant changes in design methods compared to previous lightning protection designs. In light of this, we have organized this seminar to help you learn about the latest lightning protection measures in just half a day. We will introduce the latest relevant standards and SPDs for equipment designers and contractors. We encourage you to take this opportunity to participate. Awarded the Invention Contribution Award for "Abnormal Detection Circuit for Communication Surge Protection Devices" at the 41st Invention Awards.
At the "41st Invention Awards" hosted by the Japan Invention Promotion Association and the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Deputy Manager Kensuke Kaiuchi and two others received the Contribution Award for their invention, "Abnormal Detection Circuit for Communication Surge Protection Devices." **Award Points** The circuit for a communication surge protection device (SPD) that protects communication equipment from lightning allows for easy detection of abnormalities such as deterioration by sensing leakage current. It can detect issues without affecting the communication line by applying voltage to the SPD, and it can detect the deterioration of multiple SPDs using a single DC power supply. Since the deterioration and failure of the SPD can be monitored continuously, regular inspections are no longer necessary, leading to reduced inspection costs. Additionally, early detection and recovery of failure points become possible, which contributes to the reliability of the communication system.

Protect expensive PCS (Power Conditioners) and various measuring devices from lightning damage! Launching lightning protection products, PV SPD 'ADN Series'!
Showden Co., Ltd. (4-3-8 Taihei, Sumida-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Mitsuaki Ota) will launch the lightning protection product for photovoltaic (PV) systems, the PV SPD "ADN Series," starting in April 2013. The ADN Series is an SPD that protects the power conditioning system (PCS), solar panels, junction boxes, and collection boxes from induced lightning and direct strikes that enter the DC system of PV systems. The PV market has rapidly expanded since the introduction of the "Feed-in Tariff System for Solar Power Generation" in July 2012. Additionally, a survey by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) indicates an increasing trend in the number of PV damage incidents caused by lightning. According to the latest data (2008), approximately 28% of all damages are attributed to lightning, which poses risks not only to expensive equipment like PCS but also to power generation interruptions. Showden has developed lightning protection products to safeguard PV systems from lightning damage and enable safer system operation. The PV SPD "ADN Series" features an internal separation mechanism that safely disconnects the SPD elements from the DC system in the event of degradation or failure due to lightning. It is a high-end model equipped with plug-in capability, SPD degradation indicators, and alarm outputs.
