Examples of Virus Research by Universities and Research Institutions Using TA Equipment
Virus Research Case Study: Characterization of Viruses - Evaluation of Structure and Binding Properties Using Calorimetry -
Currently, the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is a global issue. TA Instruments hopes to contribute, even in a small way, to addressing the challenges posed by COVID-19 by introducing examples of virus research conducted by universities and research institutions using TA equipment. Research institutions that incorporate studies using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) to understand the structure and mechanisms of viruses are rapidly advancing. Please take a look at the examples.
basic information
<Nano DSC> The Nano-DSC from TA Instruments is crucial for elucidating the thermodynamic profile of viral structures, leading to an understanding of the stability of viral components and reliable characterization and identification of viral strains. <Affinity ITC> The toxicity of a virus depends on its ability to specifically bind to and infect target cells. The Affinity-ITC from TA Instruments has been demonstrated to be a powerful assay technique that can be used to thermodynamically characterize these molecular interactions. Isothermal Titration Calorimeter Affinity ITC & Differential Scanning Calorimeter Nano DSC
Applications/Examples of results
Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) are excellent analytical techniques for detailed characterization of molecular binding phenomena and structural stability. The thermodynamic binding signatures obtained from ITC represent not only the strength of binding phenomena but also the actions accompanied by specific or non-specific driving forces. The structural stability profiles from DSC clearly emphasize higher-order structures and define individual domains and interactions. TA Instruments' isothermal titration calorimeter Affinity ITC and differential scanning calorimeter Nano DSC provide the performance, reliability, and ease of use required for various applications such as drug discovery, protein interactions, and structural-functional characterization.
