[FreedomEVO Case Study] Australian Eye Research Centre

The path to curing degenerative eye diseases: Introducing the case study of "Freedom EVO."

The Australian Centre for Eye Research (CERA), established in 1996, is an institution that combines public health and clinical epidemiology with cutting-edge research to elucidate the causes of eye diseases and develop new treatments. The Neuroregeneration Research Unit and the Clinical Genetics Unit are creating cell models of diseases that can lead to blindness, such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and hereditary retinal dystrophies, using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) to explore potential therapies. After establishing stem cell lines, the challenge was to develop a reliable protocol for maintaining this cell culture, but the manual process was cumbersome and time-consuming. To address this, a custom-made sterile work 'Freedom EVO System' equipped with an 84-plate LiCONiC incubator was introduced.
