[Sonic] Water Drainage Drying Case Studies: Issues with Bottle Labeling
There was no need for additional construction, and it fit into the existing production line.
Sonic Corporation decided to operate the Sonic150 with 25 horsepower and two air knives, and to circulate air to raise the temperature coming from the air knives. The concept behind Sonic Corporation's revolutionary VT (patent pending) design is to utilize the pressure heat from the blower by partially circulating air. The exit temperature from the air knives will be approximately 45°C to 50°C. This method does not require an external thermal system. The air knives are installed about 10mm away from the bottles, allowing the bottles to pass through at a wind speed of approximately 9,300m/min. The high-speed air and heated exit temperature melt the ice and turn the remaining moisture into a mist. As a result, the bottles can be completely dried. [Content] [Issues] ○ Moisture and cold air leave water droplets on the glass, resulting in the reformation of water droplets before labeling. ○ Labels cannot be applied until the bottles are dried. ○ The injection and labeling of bottles require empty bottles to be stacked in a heated warehouse, and this process can only occur after they have been warmed. We have uploaded a case study using blowers and air knives manufactured by Sonic.
Water removal drying is "not easy"! Insufficient drying of cans and bottles can lead to many defects such as label peeling, printing defects, condensation, and reduced cardboard strength. Sonic's system, using blowers and air knives, maintains a stable airspeed even on high-speed lines, ensuring reliable moisture removal. It achieves up to 75% energy savings compared to compressed air, improving both quality and cost simultaneously. With custom designs tailored to container shapes, line speeds, and processes, it can also address challenges in existing equipment. It enhances the drying process in beverage and food lines for high efficiency.

We have uploaded a case study using blowers and air knives manufactured by Sonic.
We have published a technical report summarizing the latest improvement cases related to the drying process in tire manufacturing lines. Based on empirical data collected from a large truck tire factory in the United States, the report organizes key points related to stabilizing drying quality and energy conservation. It details how improvements were made to address issues such as drying unevenness and the risks associated with compressed air, which were difficult to resolve with conventional methods—this specific process is thoroughly introduced in the PDF. Additionally, it includes perspectives useful for on-site improvements, such as the adaptability to line speed, criteria for selecting drying systems, and the status of deployment in overseas factories. The content will also be beneficial for engineers involved in the drying processes of resin and rubber processing lines, as well as tire manufacturing. If you are interested in optimizing the drying process or utilizing air knives and blowers, please download the PDF and take a look.
