Composite resin with a high loading of cellulose fibers "GREEN CHIP CMF"
"The convenience of plastic and the eco-friendliness of biomass" - Bio-based composite resin blended with wood-derived cellulose that contributes to sustainability
*During the process from resin manufacturing to incineration, the CO2 emissions of GREEN CHIP CMF, containing 55% cellulose fiber, are expected to be reduced by approximately 35% compared with petroleum-derived ABS resin and by approximately 20% compared with petroleum-derived PP resin. (*1, *2). *Cellulose fiber functions as a reinforcing material, improving tensile strength, flexural strength, flexural modulus, and heat resistance (heat load deflection temperature) compared with unreinforced PP resin. This makes it possible to make molded products thinner and, therefore, contributes to weight reduction. *By adding GREEN CHIP CMF to recycled resin as a modifier, physical properties such as strength, elastic modulus, and heat deflection temperature can be improved, thereby contributing to increased use of recycled resin. *Despite containing 55% cellulose fiber, it achieves flowability equivalent to PP resin and delivers excellent moldability. Existing molds can be used, and the material exhibits low molding shrinkage and excellent dimensional stability. *1 Calculated in-house based on the results report of commissioned work to Osaka University by the Ministry of the Environment (FY2019). *2 Calculated in-house based on the Ministry of the Environment’s "Guidelines for the Utilization of Cellulose Nanofibers."
basic information
[Features 1] Environmental friendliness - Reduced the use of petroleum-derived resins by achieving a high cellulose fiber content of 55% - Biomass Mark certification and Ministry of Health and Welfare notification No. 370 have been obtained for LB and LX types, the European certification body "TUV AUSTRIA" has received bio-based certification, and the European Plastics Regulation (EU) No.10-2011 has been met ≪What is the Biomass Mark≫ It is a mark of environmental products that utilize bio-based resources (biomass). It is awarded to products that pass an evaluation by an independent committee of experts from the Japan Organics Recycling Association. [Features 2] Moldability, designability - Resin flowability (MFR) can be adjusted - The resin has high fluidity, making it possible to mold it into fine shapes - Characteristic patterns can be formed depending on injection molding conditions [Features 3] High strength, high heat resistance, and impact resistance - Improvement of strength and heat resistance - Passes Charpy impact strength 10 - Thinning of molded products is possible - Recyclable - Strengthening physical properties by mixing cellulose fibers with recycled resin - We are also developing composites for polyethylene (PE)

TOMOEGAWA's high-content cellulose fiber resin "Green Chip CMF" has demonstrated various physical properties and the effectiveness of resource recycling in the Ministry of the Environment's ETV project.
Bakagawa Corporation is pleased to announce that the various physical properties and effectiveness of resource circulation of our cellulose fiber high-content resin "Green Chip CMF" have been validated in the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program conducted by the Ministry of the Environment. The results of this verification are published in the database of the Ministry of the Environment's ETV program. This product is a composite resin that incorporates a high content of cellulose fiber derived from wood into polypropylene (PP) resin, and it is expected to achieve a reduction in the use of petroleum-derived resins while promoting resource circulation. To objectively confirm the performance (physical properties) as a plastic resin and its material recyclability, it was adopted as a verification target technology in the Ministry of the Environment's ETV program (Resource Circulation Technology Domain), and verification was conducted by a third-party organization. The verification confirmed that, compared to standard PP resin, it demonstrated high performance in key physical properties and met the verification criteria. It was also confirmed that the rate of change in physical properties during material recycling remained within a certain range, demonstrating its effectiveness from the perspective of resource circulation.

In June 1914, TOMOEGAWA started its path as a pioneer of industrial specialty paper in Japan, and succeeded in domestic production of “electrical insulating paper and telecommunications paper” to meet the needs of telecommunications industry. In the 1960s, we earned a reputation as a 'Tomoegawa of Specialty Paper' by developing papers for multiple industries, with our strength in integrated production from wood pulp. Since then, TOMOEGAWA has developed "papermaking, coating, adhesive, powder" technologies and expanded its business domains to "highly functional materials." In recent years, with the spread of 5G, advanced driver assistance systems, etc., and the promotion of DX, many electronic parts require control for high voltage, high current, high frequency. TOMOEGAWA has expanded our "iCas" brand products that control "heat, electricity, and electromagnetic waves" to produce various solutions for heat, noise, etc. TOMOEGAWA has also formed “GREEN CHIP” brand, focusing on new products that contribute to the conservation of the natural environment and control of manufacturing and operating environments. In addition, we have changed our company name from TOMOEGAWA Co., Ltd., to TOMOEGAWA CORPORATION on January 1, 2024, in order to clarify the actual situation of our company and aim for sustainable corporate growth.
