Multidirectional Light Scattering Detector LenS3

By connecting with the high-speed GPC device "HLC-8420GPC EcoSEC Elite," absolute molecular weight and radius of gyration can be evaluated easily and accurately!

The LenS3 simultaneously detects scattered light intensity at three angles: 10° (LALS), 90° (RALS), and 170° (HALS). In the flow path, the eluent from the column splits into two at the exit of the cell, allowing it to elute from separate exits. The unique flow path and optical design, which differ from conventional flow cells, provide higher sensitivity. It is also capable of using semi-micro columns due to its low-volume flow cell. For calculating absolute molecular weight and radius of gyration, Zimm plots and Debye plots are commonly used as extrapolation methods. Accurate data, especially at low angles, is necessary to improve the precision and accuracy of the Y-intercept. The LenS3 can accurately detect scattered light at 10° due to its cell structure.

The GPC Workstation EcoSEC Elite-WS can control not only the system of the HLC-8420GPC but also the LenS3 multi-angle light scattering detector. In addition to relative molecular weight analysis using molecular weight markers obtained from the RI and UV detectors of the HLC-8420GPC, incorporating the detection data from the LenS3 allows for the analysis of absolute molecular weight and radius of gyration. The dn/dc value necessary for the analysis of absolute molecular weight and radius of gyration can also be calculated within this software using the sample concentration and data from the RI detector.
