The latest release of the Type 7 pinout included in the update to version 3.0 of the PICMG COM Express standard has been announced. The new Type 7 pinout is defined to provide 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) capabilities to the Computer-on-Module (COM) form factor using low-power, server-class latest silicon. Applications that can leverage the Type 7 pinout include industrial automation and data communication space-saving systems such as virtualization and edge computing, which require a balanced, high-density CPU core to keep power consumption appropriately low.
