The dimensions of air cargo are the basis for freight charges and determine whether it can be loaded. The cargo hold of an aircraft has height restrictions for each loading position due to its fuselage cross-section shape. Even a few centimeters of excess can prevent it from fitting in the designated position, leading to the need for redoing the build-up or rerouting the flight. The issue is not the nominal dimensions of the box, but the actual maximum height, which includes the bulging or protrusions of the packaging and the thickness of the skids. These are often overlooked during tape measurements. Our "3D Measurement System" uses a combination of a 3D camera and an RGB camera to non-contact measure the external dimensions and volume based on the actual shape in just a few seconds.
