Manufacturing process can be shortened to 1/4! Iron powder for sintered transmission gears.
High-load sintered gears produced by powder metallurgy can shorten the gear manufacturing process to less than 1/4, providing a new option that not only reduces size and weight but also improves gear characteristics.
The technology of powder metallurgy (PM) is widely adopted in various fields, including the automotive industry, as a sustainable "green" technology with a high material utilization rate (yield) close to 100% and low total energy consumption. By optimizing materials, process conditions, and design, it enables significant reductions in the number of steps previously required for processes such as gear cutting from steel, as well as lightweight and compact gear designs. Additionally, it allows for improvements in gear characteristics such as NVH, along with the addition of desired high functionality. 【Features】 - Elimination of gear cutting and hobbing allows for more than a 25% reduction in process time. - Significant reduction in the number of manufacturing equipment and installation area is possible. - Over 20% weight reduction can be achieved without additional processing steps such as hollowing or thinning. - A 15% reduction in bending and impact stress is possible with shape designs that are difficult with conventional methods. - Shape features such as marking can be added without any additional processes. - Integrated forming of gears and synchro cones can eliminate welding and preliminary processing steps. 【Exhibition Information】 Exhibition Name: 2021 Automotive Technology Exhibition Date: May 24 (Wed) to May 26 (Fri), 2021, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (until 5:00 PM on the final day) Venue: Pacifico Yokohama Exhibition Hall (Booth Number: 160)
basic information
High-load sintered gear application iron powders offer a wide range of options, including Fe-Mo-based pre-alloy powders, Fe-Ni-Mo-based ultra-low alloy powders, and Fe-Cr-Mo-based low alloy powders for ultra-high density, depending on the required characteristics and processing conditions. These various iron powders from Heganes have already been widely adopted in high-strength sintered mechanical components, and with the latest technological developments, they present an attractive alternative for manufacturing high-load gears, including automotive transmission gears. Heganes provides all solutions from prototyping to trial production and evaluation in collaboration with world-leading partners in pressing, mold, rolling, and gearbox design. Heganes is ready to assist customers not only with material selection but also with all aspects related to sintered gear manufacturing.

The world's first metal powder manufacturer to receive certification from SBTi (Science Based Target initiative).
Heganesu Corporation has become the first company in the metal powder industry to be certified by the SBTi. Initially, the goal was to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 51% from 2018 levels by 2030, and to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions, which include raw materials and transportation, by 30%. However, the company has continued to diligently pursue its efforts, accelerating its goals and achieving SBTi certification. Specifically, the goals are as follows: 2030: Achieve net-zero emissions in its own processes* (Scope 1, 2) Reduce upstream Scope 3 emissions by 30%, focusing on raw materials** 2037: Achieve net-zero across the entire value chain (Scope 1, 2, and upstream Scope 3) *Net-zero: Any GHG emissions that cannot be reduced will be removed using carbon removal technologies. **Refers to the processes from raw material sourcing to factory acceptance based on 2018 levels. What is SBTi? A joint initiative by WWF, CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact. It recommends, promotes, supports, and certifies companies to ensure that their greenhouse gas reduction targets are based on scientific evidence, aiming to limit the global average temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

From May 26 (Wednesday) to 28 (Friday), 2021, we will be exhibiting examples of metal powder applications for sintered transmission gears and SMC automotive motor cores at the "Automotive Technology Exhibition 2021" held at Pacifico Yokohama.
The "2021 Automotive Technology Exhibition" will be held at Pacifico Yokohama from May 26 (Wednesday) to 28 (Friday). At the Heganes Japan booth (Booth 160), we will introduce the latest applications of metal powders in two fields: 1) sintered gears for automotive transmissions, and 2) various vehicle motor cores by SMC. We will showcase actual sintered gears for medium-sized vehicles, specifically a 6-speed MT gear with an input torque class of 320Nm used by the European Sintered Gear Consortium, as well as the latest sintered gears (planned) for attendees to see and touch, allowing them to experience the potential of sintered gears. We will also introduce Alvier AG PM-Technology (part of the Heganes Group), which has advanced technology for the core manufacturing process, including molding dies. Additionally, we will present application examples of motor cores using Somaloy, which is effectively a benchmark for pure iron-based powder magnetic materials, along with sample products. This time, we will focus on axial gap motors and plan to exhibit actual machines adopted by customers.
