POWERCOAT paper substrate

Support for the realization of connected paper with printed electric circuits on paper, smart features, and integrated NFC.

With the spread of printed electronics, there is a demand for new low-cost and flexible substrates to replace the currently mainstream PCB (epoxy resin), PET (polyethylene terephthalate), PEN (polyethylene naphthalate), PI (polyimide), and glass substrates. The French pioneering company Arjowiggins Creative Papers, known for its innovative paper design, developed a new paper substrate called POWERCOAT for printed electronics in 2013. It has already gained traction among many users, particularly in Europe, and is attracting attention as an alternative to existing plastic substrates like PCB, glass substrates, and PET, as well as for new needs.

basic information

By combining PowerCoat, we evolve traditional wrapping paper, packs, event tickets, cards, magazines, and more into paper that carries information. Additionally, it provides value as a material that realizes pressure sensors, lighting, displays, and other innovations that are not bound by conventional concepts. The target fields span various industries, from retail and education to healthcare and aerospace. PowerCoat is a special coating applied to heat-resistant paper developed and patented by Arjowiggins. The surface of this coating layer maintains a surface roughness of less than 10nm compared to regular paper, offering excellent smoothness and superior adhesion for printable silver nano inks and silver pastes, preventing them from soaking into the paper.
