FWM8612 High-Speed Wavelength Meter
1kHz ultra-fast, real-time wavelength monitoring
With the increase in demand for communication data, optical communication transmission systems are required to have greater capacity. As a result, manufacturers of optical devices and network equipment are adopting coherent communication modules that use wavelength-variable lasers in transmission backbone networks. Currently, wavelength-variable lasers and coherent modules are also beginning to be used in metropolitan area networks (MAN) and access networks. For wavelength-variable lasers, accurate wavelength measurement and calibration are extremely important. The number of communication channels has increased from the initial 40 wavelengths to a maximum of 800 wavelengths, and the efficiency and accuracy of wavelength measurement are being demanded like never before.

Detailed information
-
High-speed measurement The FWM8612 wavelength meter achieves a measurement speed of up to 200Hz in the standard single sampling mode. This corresponds to 20 to 100 times the speed of a typical multi-wavelength Michelson interferometer. Furthermore, it boasts high reliability with a power accuracy of less than 0.5dB and reproducibility of less than 0.02dB.
-
Internal Trigger Sampling Mode The FWM8612 is equipped with a built-in trigger signal generator, enabling high-speed measurements of up to 1000Hz. As shown in the figure below, it can evaluate the switching cycle and stability of conventional mechanical optical switches, and accurately observe instantaneous wavelength and power fluctuations of variable lasers.
-
External Trigger Sampling Mode The FWM8612 high-speed wavelength meter supports a 5V TTL trigger level and allows for sampling measurements of up to 1000Hz via an external trigger. This enables spectral scan measurements of variable lasers, mode map scans, channel calibration, and also supports synchronized monitoring of wavelength and power for pulsed lasers.
-
Wideband Operating Mode When high-speed modulation is performed, lasers with originally narrow linewidths (typically kHz to MHz) have their spectra broadened (e.g., a 96Gbaud modulation signal). The FWM8612 is capable of accurate wavelength measurement even for such wideband signals, making it ideal for evaluating next-generation coherent communication.
-
Wideband Operating Mode The FWM8612 has further optimized the conventional model and finally achieved accurate wavelength measurement of 400G QAM16 (96Gbaud) signals. It serves as a reliable measurement tool for wideband modulation signal evaluation for next-generation high-speed transmission.
