Types of Antistatic Coatings and How to Choose Them | Safron

Prevent static electricity problems by discharging to the substrate or ground. Explanation of leakage resistance value guidelines and grade selection.

Fluororesin coatings have excellent electrical insulation properties, which makes them prone to charging in environments where static electricity is generated, potentially leading to issues such as dust adhesion, material sticking, and damage to electronic components. Yoshida SKT Co., Ltd.'s "Safron" is a fluororesin-based surface treatment that enables static electricity prevention by allowing the charges generated on the coating surface to flow to the substrate metal or ground. It maintains the characteristics of fluororesin, such as non-stickiness, low friction, chemical resistance, and water repellency, while reducing problems caused by adhesion and clogging due to static electricity. Depending on the application, the lineup includes "Safron AP+" with enhanced release properties and corrosion resistance for thick film applications, "AS+" for anti-fouling properties, "LF+" for low friction and low-temperature processing on resin substrates, and "CC+" which maintains transparency. A urethane-based anti-static grade is also available, and these products are widely adopted in various fields from semiconductors to the chemical industry and general manufacturing. Pre-evaluation using test pieces is also possible.

basic information

【Guidelines for Electrical Resistance Values】 ■ Safron: Target leakage resistance value of 10^8Ω or lower (not a guaranteed value for all processed parts) ■ Safron AP+ (standard part numbers AP-734P [PFA type] / AP-735E [ETFE type], film thickness 300-500μm) 【Guidelines for Grade Selection】 ■ Emphasis on corrosion resistance (chemical tanks and piping) → AP+ (blister formation in chemical environments is about half that of standard fluoropolymer coatings) ■ Emphasis on anti-fouling and release properties → AS+ (enhanced wipe-off capability for dirt) ■ Low friction; substrates sensitive to heat such as resins → LF+ (low-temperature processing part numbers available for below 100°C) ■ Transparent parts → CC+ (maintains transparency while preventing static electricity) ■ Need for product protection and quietness → Urethane coating anti-static grade (CD9000NE) 【Examples of Adoption in the Semiconductor and Electronic Components Field】 Wafer and glass handling (Safron) / Chemical supply tanks (AP+) / Prevention of resin powder adhesion due to static electricity / Reduction of film entanglement and quality defects due to static electricity
