Matsumoto Processing: New Product Release Announcement <Hot Melt Molding Machine MK700H for Waterproof Sealing of Large Circuit Boards>
In November 2018, we added a new lineup to the popular MK series hot melt molding machines. The molding size of the conventional MK series hot melt molding machines was generally limited to about the size of a business card. However, we received many requests from customers wanting to mold larger substrates and improve production efficiency with multiple parts. In response, we developed the newly announced <MK700H>. Like the MK600, it retains a compact machine size while expanding the projection area of the molds to 300×200mm. Additionally, it maintains the feature that the power source consists only of electricity and compressed air, while increasing the clamping force to 7.5 tons, which is 7.5 times that of the MK600. As a result, the MK700H enables the molding of large substrates over the size of four business cards. A working model is currently on display at our lab in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Hot melt molding. It is a waterproofing technique for electronic devices such as circuit boards and sensors that has gained attention in recent years. The reason for this attention is undoubtedly the simplicity of the process. While two-component potting requires three steps—mixing, injection, and curing—which can take several hours to complete the product, hot melt molding completes the product in just one step and in a matter of seconds. One customer was facing the issue of electrolytic capacitors detaching due to vibrations during the evaluation stage of the circuit board mounted around the motor. Therefore, we proposed hot melt molding. By sealing the area around the electrolytic capacitors with low-hardness hot melt, we reduced the concentration of stress on the capacitors, addressed the vibration issue, and simultaneously reduced the casing and achieved cost savings.
