[Application Example] Customized Hexapod for Aircraft Manufacturing
High dynamic 6-degree-of-freedom compensation in aircraft manufacturing.
The PI has developed the high-performance hexapod H-900K101 for milling, deburring, sealing, and drilling processes of CFRP wing outer panels in the Airbus-led research project "Wing of Tomorrow." By combining it with the coarse positioning of a multi-joint robot, it dynamically compensates for high-frequency trajectory deviations caused by machining forces with high speed and precision during milling. In addition to its high dynamic characteristics, capable of accelerating a maximum payload of 40 kg at up to 1.2G in the XY plane, it has been optimized for specific applications, including a lower center of gravity and reduced overall height. Furthermore, with EtherCAT compatibility and fiber optic communication between the hexapod controller and driver, it can control drivers located up to 100 meters away from the control panel outside the machining cell while minimizing control loop delays to ensure high responsiveness. It aims to meet the stringent tolerances required in the aerospace field, improving machining and sealing accuracy while reducing manufacturing time and process costs.
