High-durability fluororesin coating for hot rivet pins | Long lifespan and high release properties

"Uniform coating up to the tip and fine pin area" Excellent non-stick properties and heat wear resistance! Prevents sticking of molten resin and appearance defects, significantly reducing downtime.

This is a technical case study for our unique high-durability fluororesin coating "Thermo Pro Release" applied to metal thermal press pins and thermal press horns used in the assembly process of plastic (resin) components such as automotive parts, electronic components, and home appliances. It forms a high-performance coating with a uniform film thickness even on the fine pin shapes, tips, and protrusions of the jigs. **Main Improvement Effects from Implementation** - **Prevention of Resin Adhesion and Sticking (Quality Stabilization)** With excellent non-stick properties, it prevents the bonding of molten resin during pressing and the adhesion of resin debris. This reduces appearance defects, pulling, and transfer failures on the pressed surface, stabilizing molding quality. - **High Durability Against Thermal Cycles and Physical Wear (Extended Lifespan)** Compared to conventional fluororesin coatings, it significantly improves heat resistance and wear resistance. It is strong against thermal loads from continuous heating and wear from resin contact, maintaining initial release performance for a longer duration. - **Reduction of Maintenance Labor and Downtime** It suppresses the accumulation of resin debris on the jigs, reducing the need for removal cleaning during operation and minimizing line stoppages associated with jig replacements, thereby improving productivity.

Applications/Examples of results

【Main Application Areas and Assembly Processes】 ■ Automotive Electronic Components and Interior Parts Resin thermal staking for in-vehicle ECU cases, switch modules, and door trims. ■ Precision Electronics and Home Appliances Heating staking for connector components, resin bosses for securing circuit boards, and mechanical parts. ■ Medical Devices, Optics, and Housing Equipment Thermal staking jigs for assembling resin housings and lens holding parts. 【Problem-Solving Case Studies】 ■ Issue In the thermal staking process of an automated assembly line, molten resin and resin debris were adhering and accumulating on the pin tips, frequently causing pull-off issues and appearance defects on the staking surfaces. Although conventional fluorine coatings were applied, the coating wore off and peeled quickly due to thermal cycling and friction with the resin, leading to frequent line stoppages for jig cleaning and replacement. ■ After Implementation Applied "Thermo Pro Release" to the tips of thermal staking pins and horns. ■ Effects and Results - The release of resin became smoother, significantly reducing debris adhesion and pull-off defects. - The wear resistance lifespan of the coating was greatly extended, reducing maintenance efforts and downtime.

Nikken Coating Industry Co., Ltd. has been a specialized manufacturer of functional coatings for contract processing, earning the trust of customers across various industries for 79 years since its founding. We leverage our processing technology to maximize the properties of fluororesins, such as non-stick, lubricity, and chemical resistance, providing high-performance coatings that directly address customer challenges, including "Thermo Pro Release" for thermal welding processes and "NonStick STC" for blades and precision molds. In recent years, in response to movements regarding regulations on fluorinated compounds (PFAS), "PEEK resin," which is gaining attention as a substitute for fluororesins, has become a focus. Nikken Coating Industry commercialized the world's first PEEK resin coating, "PEEKCOAT," in 1999. Based on the solid knowledge and know-how accumulated over more than 20 years, we are further intensifying our research and development efforts to explore the potential of next-generation PEEK coatings! We aim to be recognized as "the go-to for PEEK coatings" and will continue to lead the way. As "the best partner for functional coatings that builds trust through technology," Nikken Coating Industry will continue to contribute to the creation of high-quality, high-performance products.
