[Analysis Case] Transdermal Absorption Test of Tranexamic Acid Using Tape Stripping Method
Quantitative evaluation of skin permeability.
The tape stripping method is a technique for removing the stratum corneum from the skin surface using adhesive tape, and it is an effective method for evaluating the permeability of active ingredients in cosmetics and beauty devices to the skin. Products containing tranexamic acid, known for its whitening properties (such as lotions and emulsions), were applied to a person's arm, and the process of stripping the stratum corneum with adhesive tape was repeated 30 times after a certain period. By extracting multiple pieces of adhesive tape with a solvent and analyzing the extract using LC-MS/MS, the content of tranexamic acid in the stratum corneum was quantified to evaluate its permeability to the skin.
